ADOS Assessment

ADOS

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is an assessment of the behaviour considered important in the diagnosis of Autism, and is recognised by the NHS. The assessment incorporates semi-structured tasks based on social interaction, communication and play.

About the ADOS assessment

Autism is defined as a spectrum disorder, which means symptoms can be different for each person. Autism can often be detected through difficulties in communication, social interaction, behaviour and sensory sensitivity.

Some early symptoms of Autism can include a lack of speech, delayed speech, not responding to other people or restricted behaviour and interests. A child with Autism may also have unusual reactions to noises and smells, as well as exhibiting repetitive behaviours.

Wellbeing’s self-pay ADOS service provides an easily accessible solution for parents/carers who are looking for a fast and professionally recognised diagnosis for their child.

Our health professionals use the recognised ADOS assessment technique to observe your child for the presence or absence of behaviours that are considered important to the diagnosis of Autism and other developmental disorders.

Your Wellbeing team of clinicians will focus on four modules, including structured activities and less structured interactions, each tailored to your child's level. The assessment takes approximately two hours, with time for initial feedback and discussion with parents. A comprehensive report is produced, with detailed findings and support recommendations.

Private ADOS assessments

If your child is on the Autism spectrum, getting a diagnosis and a better understanding of their needs, can be a positive thing. But while there is a growing awareness of the needs and benefits of diagnostic assessments in the UK, children continue to have trouble accessing quality assessments on a timely basis. Screening tests are available but should not be seen as an alternative to proper assessment and diagnosis.

If you are considering a private ADOS assessment for your child, you can be assured of quick and easy access to the same high standard ADOS assessment used by the NHS. This helps to ensure that if you receive a positive diagnosis, it is recognised by local education authorities and schools, so your child has access to the support that they need for the future.

Our ADOS team is led by a Consultant Paediatrician - and has extensive knowledge and experience in the diagnosis of Autism and other developmental disorders.

Please note, we are currently only able to see children who are on an existing NHS waiting list, having already had an initial NHS assessment from a Consultant Paediatrician. For patients who are registered outside of  the mid Essex area, one of our Consultant Paediatricians will confirm your child's suitability for our ADOS assessment depending on their requirements.

    • I'd been putting off going to my GP for a very long time but when my wife mentioned Wellbeing and that I could get an appointment the same week I thought I might as well go for it. I'm so glad I did, my Wellbeing Audiologist was so knowledgeable and took the time to explain both the Microsuction procedure and my

    • Thank you for seeing and assessing me so promptly. You really put my mind at ease and prevented an unnecessary trip to the GP which as it turns out would not have yielded any benefit or sorted out the problem I came to you about.
      Happy Customer, Chelmsford
I found your service thorough and professional. Additionally, I was really delighted to be able to have the time to discuss fully the issues with such an experienced professional.  Indeed, following the assessment the advice and treatment you recommended appear to have sorted out a long term problem that was getting worse and causing me increasing pain and discomfort. Many thanks.
