We recognise that skin lesions and blemishes can be a source of discomfort, and may be something that you are self-conscious about. Wellbeing offers Minor Surgery for a range of skin conditions from our Tollgate Clinic in Colchester, Essex. Our experienced specialists will discuss your condition and treatment options with you, so that you can make an informed decision about your care and take advantage of fast access to treatment. All of our procedures are outpatient services and do not require general anaesthetic.
To aid in the diagnosis of skin conditions, our clinicians are specially trained in the use of a Digital Dermatoscope. This specialised piece of equipment illuminates and magnifies the surface detail of the skin, giving the clinician a clear visual of the area and increasing the speed and accuracy of diagnosis compared to using the naked eye.
If you already have a diagnosis and are looking at your options, our clinician will discuss with you any previous treatment you may have had, and go through with you their recommended route towards reducing or removing the skin condition in question.
We commonly treat a variety of skin conditions including:
If you have a problem that is not listed above, you are more than welcome to book an appointment with us to identify and diagnose the affected area. If our clinicians are not able to help, we will be happy to advise on other treatments and where they are available, either on the NHS or via a self-pay route.
We surveyed 52 Minor Skin Surgery patients from 2020-21, out of which 51 rated their experience positively, giving us a 98% satisfaction rate!
Lesions located on the face
Due to the visibility of skin conditions on the face, we would look to remove any concerns you may have in this area as quickly as possible. The facial area contains many sensitive structures, so in order to ensure that treatment can be performed with minimal scarring or complications, we recommend that you book in for a discussion dedicated to facial lesions, during which you can bring up with the clinician any concerns elsewhere on your body as well.
Biopsy and histology
If you have a pigment lesion (mole), our clinicians will take a biopsy that will be sent to a laboratory for analysis. Most moles are benign or harmless, but if they are atypical or exhibiting changes, this could be a sign that they need further investigation. The results of the biopsy will then be returned to the clinic and you will be contacted to discuss the findings and the recommended treatment options.
Stitches are usually not required for minor surgical procedures, but if they are needed, we use soluble stitches which means that you will not need to book a return appointment to have them removed.
Minor Skin Surgery appointments are charged according to the time spent with the clinician. You can book a 15-minute initial telephone consultation assessment to discuss your requirements and your clinician will confirm treatment options and prices.
